Fast LC Columns

Fast LC columns (4.6mm I.D.50mm) packed with 3m totally porous spherical packing materials provides more than 5,000 theoretical plates. The column length is one fifth that of 250mm columns. The analysis time of Fast LC 4.6mm I.D.50mm column becomes one fifth that of 4.6mm I.D.250mm column since analysis time is in general proportional to column length. The necessary time for the column equilibrium also becomes shorter. Other benefits of using Fast LC columns are reduced solvent consumption and improved detection limits.

Recommended operating procedures
The use of a COSMOSIL Pre-Filter (1m) between injector and column is highly recommended in order to prevent column clogging. It should also be noted that the use of a guard column or a long connecting tube may reduce column efficiency.
Comparison of theoretical plate numbers
In the example analysis of drugs using a COSMOSIL 5C18 and a COSMOSIL 3C18, the Fast LC column is twice as efficient.
Analysis of furans
The COSMOSIL 3C18 provides the same elution profile as the COSMOSIL 5C18-MS does but in one fifth of the time.
