COSMOSIL non-aqueous GPC columns 5GPC-60, 5GPC-100 and 5GPC-300
can provide high resolution, high-speed analysis. GPC packing
materials are 5µm diameter particles of totally porous spherical
silica gel. Without swelling they display excellent stability
against pressure.
For GPC, all samples are eluted within t0. The t0 value for a
COSMOSIL 5GPC 4.6mmI.D.x250mm column is about three minutes at a
flow rate of 1.0ml/min; meaning that the analysis is completed
within about three minutes. COSMOSIL 5GPC column therefore require
less solvent. This is important, especially when expensive
solvents such as 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol are used. In
each molecular weight range, the GPC columns provide linear
correlation between log MW and the elution volume. The large pore
volume results in high peak capacity. Higher efficiencies are
obtained with multiple columns. Coupled columns (GPC-60 and
GPC-100, or GPC-100 and GPC-300) are frequently employed to meet
the wide molecular weight range of samples.

Recommended solvents and
optimal temperature
-Solvents
Saturated hydrocarbons and the solvents specified below can be
used with the GPC column. The use of solvents and mobile phases
containing water should be avoided in order to prevent
deterioration of column efficiency.
Solvents from the halogen series may corrode the stainless steel
tubing and fittings of the HPLC system. After using these
solvents, wash the column with solvent not containing halogen
ions. Column washing and changing of mobile phase should be
conducted with low flow rate. Flow rate of less than 0.5ml/min for
4.6mmI.D. columns and less than 1.5ml/min for 10mmI.D. columns are
recommended.
-Temperature
Run the separation at a column temperature of 50°C lower than the
boiling point of the mobile phase in order to prevent bubble
formation.
