The use of guard columns to protect both analytical and
preparative columns is highly recommended.
Packing materials, which are identical to that used in analytical
and preparative columns, are packed in the COSMOSIL guard columns.
As the result, the COSMOSIL guard columns do not contribute to any
decrease in the performance of the main column.

Example of using preparative guard column
Guard columns are essential for preparative columns where a large
quantity of sample is injected under high flow rates. Large sample
size and extraneous materials in the sample may rapidly degrade a
preparative column. By connecting a guard column with the
preparative column, the main reparative column is protected and
its life can be prolonged.
Rough purification with the guard column is recommended in
situations where the object peak is well separated from impurity
peaks.

COSMOSIL GUARD CARTRIDGE can protect your analytical column
by the cost of about 1/5 of current Guard column.
For guard cartridges, the same high performance packing material
as for the analytical columns are adopted, and packed by an
original method. Therefore the analytical column is protected for
long time and the performance is not compromised.
Note
A special holder is necessary for the guard cartridge.
